Michael Greaves - Dunedin

Michael Greaves is a Principal Lecturer in Painting at The Dunedin School of Art, Otago Polytechnic, Te Pūkenga, where he has taught since 2005. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree with distinction in Painting, and a Bachelor’s degree in both Art History and Theory, and Teaching. His studio practice and interests explore how painting hybrids the memory, or the misremembering, of objects and things. He collides digital and analogue methods and frameworks to present accumulations and layering of narratives, and pictorial devices, forming new associations and experiences. In addition to his studio practice, he has a keen interest in research around pedagogy and contingent practices in higher Arts Education. He has exhibited widely both nationally and internationally, his most recent exhibitions include ‘Sullivan’s Objects’ at Five Walls in Melbourne and ‘we are not strong enough for rivers and stars’ at Melanie Roger Gallery in Auckland. He has upcoming shows in 2023 at Olga Gallery in Dunedin and the Ashburton Public Art Gallery.
