Artists Information

Entries open: Tuesday, 1st October 2024 

Entries Close Friday, 1st November 2024, 5pm. 
Artist entries will be confirmed by the Ist December via email due to selection process. 150 pieces will be selected for the exhibition.

Delivery of Artwork. Courier deliveries to be delivered on Monday, 6th January 2025 between 10am-3pm.
All other artwork (hand-delivered) must arrive on Tuesday, 7th January 2025 between 10am-1pm.

Gala Night/Exhibition Opening: Friday, 10th January 2025, 6pm (winners announced on the night).

Exhibition Dates Open to the Public: 11-13th January 2025, 10am-4pm.

The collection of purchased works is Monday 13th January 2025, 5.00pm-6.30 pm.

The collection of unsold artworks is Wednesday, 15th January 2025, 10.00am to 12.00pm. Couriered artwork sent back.

The award is open to any individual aged 18 or older as of January 1st of the Exhibition year and is open to all New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. An independent selection panel will choose 150 entries. Each artist is limited to one entry.

Rules of Entry - Terms and Conditions - Please Read

  1. The prize is open to any adult (18 years or older as of January 1st of the year of the Exhibition), and open to New Zealand citizens or permanent residents only. 1 entry only per artist.

  2. The Craigs Aspiring Art Prize Supreme Winner is an acquisition prize. The judges will select one entry to receive the $20,000 first prize Craigs Aspiring Art Prize Supreme Winner award. By submitting your entry, you agree that if awarded the Craigs Aspiring Art Prize Supreme Winner, your artwork is available for acquisition by Craigs Investment Partners Limited in exchange for the prize amount of $20,000. The winner’s artwork must not be otherwise offered for sale during the exhibition.

  3. Art Medium: Organisers request an original, two-dimensional work only ie: painting, drawing, artist prints and mixed media. Photographs and digital artwork will NOT be accepted. Works can be framed or unframed but must be ready to hang and have the full contact details of the artist and details of the work on the reverse. A brief summary of the artwork being submitted as well as a CV of the artist would be helpful for the judging.

  4. Art Size. Only one work per artist may be submitted of a size not greater than approximately 1 square metre in area. For example 1m x 1m, 90cm x 110cm. Oversize entries will not be accepted. Please submit in mm or cm.

  5. Entry Fee/ Entry: Entry is $25 (plus $1 transaction fee) and is non-refundable. 1 entry per artist.

  6. Selection Process: This year, the awards will only display 150 pieces of artwork due to the venue's size constraints. The selection process will be conducted by an independent panel. Their decision will be final, and no further discussion will be entertained.

  7. Exhibited Art. The submitted artwork must be original and should not have been previously exhibited to the public for sale, in any art competition, or for judging on any prior occasion. This includes exhibitions in galleries, showrooms, online galleries, or any other public venue. Any entry that has been shown previously is ineligible for entry and will be excluded from the Exhibit or the Awards by the organisers. Entrants, who are at an art school/university where the work was exhibited for assessment or year-end showing on campus are granted an exemption from this condition. 
    Social Media: we are happy for entrants to show progress images of their artwork on social media. We would like it if the final piece is not put up online and not for sale on these pages ie Facebook and Instagram.

  8. Ready to Hang: All artworks must be professionally presented and have a suitable cord or wire attached to frames/mountings by D-rings with no protruding nails or screws. The artwork must be dry. If not presented in a ready-to-hang manner we have the right to reject the artwork and it will not be hung.

  9. Artwork Images: All artists must supply 2x high res jpg images of their completed artwork, one full image and the other a detail image. Please take time to get this right as these will be what the selection panel judges your artwork on. If you have any questions, please email us at aspiringartprize@gmail.com

  10. Images for Craigs Investment Partners Calendar: The artist gives the organisers and Craigs Investment Partners Limited permission to use photos/ images of their work for the Craigs promotional 2026 calendar if selected. Artists will be acknowledged along with the title of their artwork.

  11. Judges: The judges’ decision will be final and no discussion or correspondence will be entered into. Organisers and judges reserve the right to reject any work they deem indecent or inappropriate.

  12. Selling Art: All entrants must offer their work for sale. A sales commission of 27.5% will be deducted from the artist’s payment for any sold items during the exhibition. The artist gives the organisers the right to exhibit their work and sell it on their behalf

  13. Use of artwork images: The artist gives the organisers permission to use photos or images of their work for marketing and promotional purposes on the website and social media platforms. Artist will be credited where possible.

  14. Delivery of Artwork: Courier deliveries to Monday 6th January 2025, between 10am-3pm (Holy Family School, 152 Aubrey Road, Wanaka 9305). All other artwork (hand delivered) must arrive on Tuesday 7th January 2025, between 10am-1pm. Please contact if you have any queries about delivery. Couriers: please use NZ Couriers or NZ Post as depots in Wanaka. Please do NOT use Aramex - we have had issues with lost/stuck artwork in their depot.
    Information regarding date of delivery: We inform local courier companies in Wanaka about the bulk artwork delivery. They have been reliable in the past, delivering the entire batch on the specified day. Once your entry is confirmed, you will receive an artist kit with address labels for your packaging (labels are not pre-paid).

    Entrants will be responsible for getting their work to the school on the date advertised. They will also be responsible for organising the removal of unsold works and these items must be removed on Wednesday 15th January 2025 between the hours of 10am-12pm. Any works delivered or collected from the site by courier must be arranged and pre-paid by the Entrant. The premises will be closed after this date so the collection is essential. Any Entrant who fails to pick up unsold artwork by this date will be charged $10 a day for storage of the artwork. The Organisers accept no responsibility for artwork that is lost during transit to or from the school and the artists should ensure that their work is appropriately insured. 

  15. Return of unsold artwork: Please provide a pre-paid return courier ticket for the return of unsold artwork in a self-addressed stamped envelope either attached well to the back of the artwork or email us a PDF of your online courier ticket (if you prefer to wait).

  16. Online Entry Form: All entrants are required to fill in the online entry form and have paid the entry fee of $25.00 (plus a small transaction fee) in full prior to the acceptance of their work by the Organisers. The final date of entry is Friday, 1st November 2024. Any changes to the details provided in the entry form must be made in writing by emailing the changes required to the organisers. No changes can be made once the artwork has been delivered after 4pm on the date the artwork is to be delivered to the exhibition. 

  17. Insurance: All costs of transport and insurance are the responsibility of the artist. The organisers cannot be held responsible for any damage to works in transit. Every effort will be made to ensure that all work is handled with the greatest of care. 

  18. The organisers reserve the right to modify or cancel the dates, agenda, content, prizes or conditions of the event, without restriction or prior notification, if they deem this to be necessary. In the case of cancellation of the event before the Prize Giving, all entry fees paid in full will be refunded to the artist.
